The place has a charming tropical garden that provides a serene atmosphere, perfect for unwinding after a long day. Breakfast is a highlight, offering a delightful spread that made waking up worthwhile.
The steep hillside location can be quite the trek down to town, and the room I stayed in felt dark and somewhat stuffy, leading me to leave the doors open for some airflow. The shower was tricky with fluctuating temperatures, and I encountered a non-functional safety box, which was a bit concerning. keep in mind that the walls are thin—talking past 10 PM might get you some unwanted attention from neighbors.

Rob's unforgettable insider tours
My stay at O Veleiro was enriched by Rob's fantastic tours, showcasing hidden gems of Rio. The breakfasts were superb, featuring fresh fruit and local treats. I also loved the peaceful surroundings and tropical garden that created a relaxing oasis after a day in the bustling city.
While the peaceful location is a bonus, the steep uphill access can be a challenge. It requires a short uphill trek, which may not suit guests with mobility issues.

I booked a Superior Room at O Veleiro for three nights. The garden view from my room was enchanting, with singing birds creating a tranquil atmosphere. Breakfasts were delightful, featuring fresh fruit, local dishes, and coffee that made waking up a pleasure. The hosts really took time to connect with guests, sitting down to dine and share experiences. Rob's insights on local attractions enhanced my stay, especially his recommendations for hidden gems in the city. the steep access to the property was a challenge during my stay. It required some effort to navigate back up after a day of exploring. Despite this, the charm of the place made it worthwhile.

The breakfast here was an absolute delight! Fresh fruit, eggs, and those toasty goodies had me smiling every morning. Rob and Richard are superb hosts, always eager to share tips for exploring the vibrant local food scene like nearby Maya Cafe and ZB Restaurante.
Can’t say a bad thing about anything honestly, but the uphill trek back to the guesthouse might challenge your legs after a full day of stuffing your face! Still, I’d take that climb any day for the charm of this place.
